Our weekend

I was off this weekend, and had the itch to get out of town. It is a chronic condition...
Anyway, Friday night we went to the rodeo. (There's no trying to recycle those clothes.) We made it about an hour before porter had the "can't help it's" and wouldn't sit still. Short, but fun. Maybe next year. We also needed to get going because I had a transfer from luverne that I needed to tend to.
Saturday morning I worked out really good because we were planning on going to destin after cookies with characters and I knew how bad I was going to be. We successfully negotiated an earlier nap with porter and slid into an empty spot in front of the stage at CWC right before the show. Porter was entertained with most of the characters--he could care less about barbie and the princesses (give him a few years, right??)--and loved Elmo, big bird, mickey, Minnie, Donald, daisy, and goofy, and of course, buzz and woody. We visited a few of them (pictures coming soon), had our cookies, and got on the road. We were really in the mood for crawfish and are used to being able to indulge this early in the season after living in the greater mobile area for the last five years. There is not the same availability in the panhandle, so we settled for Mcguire's Irish pub. (BTW, all of the restaurants we drove by were *packed.* Strange to see this early in the year. Is everyone trying to make up for the less than stellar beach season last year due to oil???)

We had a delicious meal and then had our sights set on the crocs store at destin commons, the only real agenda for our trip other than good/unhealthy and totally-not-on-my-diet type food. Porter had outgrown his from last year, but has continued to try to get them on his feet... We picked out a not at all obnoxious orange pair and then somehow ended up in Coldstone creamery (totally against my will ;) ). Jared had his regular cheesecake with nothing, I had oreo cream flavored ice cream with Oreos mixed in--heaven-ly--and porter had cotton candy, which was also wonderful.

Porter played on the little playground like he had never seen a playground before and then we had a regular restless night of sleep. Porter is quite the sleep-talker.
Sunday morning we ate at the Donut Hole, and got a few treasures for the ride home and decided to scoot by Starbucks on our way out of town. We ended up staying at destin commons for a while longer and more time at the playground. We made it home right after lunch and coaxed porter into finishing his nap.

What a great 24 hour getaway....

Porter's spring collection

Here are just two of porter's many new outfits that we have been working on. He now has three completed sets--the owls, bumble bee, and robot. We have completed five pair of shorts, one of which has a matching shirt that I have not appliquéd yet. Mama is finishing up a super cute pair of overalls tonight. I'll post more as we complete them. We have three more pieces of material for shorts and matching shirts on the way. We are on the way to a complete wardrobe of home sewn cloths!

The owl outfit

Porter's not feeling like posing for pictures this morning, so this is the best I could do for a picture. We finally have a pair of bottoms (shorts or pants) that actually fit. The waist and length usually don't match--if they fit in the waist they are too short, and if the length is right, they won't stay up.

Sewing day

Mama, nannie, and I got together today to do a little sewing. We made porter four pair of shorts and one pair is halfway done, for a total of five pair!!! Nannie and I appliquéd one shirt this afternoon and have four more in the works (tomorrow afternoon). The shorts and shirts will all make sets that match when we are finished. I only have one picture so far, of the shirt we did this afternoon. There is a pair of shorts already done the match. I'll post the whole outfit later.

Porter made a "Taste"

I've been making smoothies in the morning for breakfast and always ask porter if he wants a taste. Now he thinks that's what they are called, and says, "mama, I wanna bite of that taste." This morning we made him his own "taste" and he said, "daddy, I wike it."

Deer meat day!

The last of our deer meat is ready at the processor in loxley, so we decided to make a day of it and visit kangarooz family fun center in Spanish fort as the main attraction. We also ate lunch at chick fil a, and swung by great American cookie company. This evening we are meeting our friends Daran and sissy, and their boys for dinner at our old Mexican place. Yea! Cheating on my diet again today... Anyway, here are some pics from kangarooz. I forgot my real camera, so it's just iPhone pics.

Blurry, but hilarious.

Still blurry. In fact, most of them are blurry, but oh well. You get the idea...

Other Valentine Pictures

All Porter kept asking for yesterday at Wal-Mart was a balloon, so he finally got one this afternoon.

We got flowers for all of Porter's "girls." (Cousins and Molly) We took Sylvie hers yesterday, but I forgot to get any pictures. This evening we took Catherine and Caroline theirs, and their cards, with "pirate tattoos" (skull and cross bones). Now Nana, Papa, Mama, Daddy, Catherine, and Caroline all have pirate tattoos, but Porter is too scared to get one.
