Our weekend

I was off this weekend, and had the itch to get out of town. It is a chronic condition...
Anyway, Friday night we went to the rodeo. (There's no trying to recycle those clothes.) We made it about an hour before porter had the "can't help it's" and wouldn't sit still. Short, but fun. Maybe next year. We also needed to get going because I had a transfer from luverne that I needed to tend to.
Saturday morning I worked out really good because we were planning on going to destin after cookies with characters and I knew how bad I was going to be. We successfully negotiated an earlier nap with porter and slid into an empty spot in front of the stage at CWC right before the show. Porter was entertained with most of the characters--he could care less about barbie and the princesses (give him a few years, right??)--and loved Elmo, big bird, mickey, Minnie, Donald, daisy, and goofy, and of course, buzz and woody. We visited a few of them (pictures coming soon), had our cookies, and got on the road. We were really in the mood for crawfish and are used to being able to indulge this early in the season after living in the greater mobile area for the last five years. There is not the same availability in the panhandle, so we settled for Mcguire's Irish pub. (BTW, all of the restaurants we drove by were *packed.* Strange to see this early in the year. Is everyone trying to make up for the less than stellar beach season last year due to oil???)

We had a delicious meal and then had our sights set on the crocs store at destin commons, the only real agenda for our trip other than good/unhealthy and totally-not-on-my-diet type food. Porter had outgrown his from last year, but has continued to try to get them on his feet... We picked out a not at all obnoxious orange pair and then somehow ended up in Coldstone creamery (totally against my will ;) ). Jared had his regular cheesecake with nothing, I had oreo cream flavored ice cream with Oreos mixed in--heaven-ly--and porter had cotton candy, which was also wonderful.

Porter played on the little playground like he had never seen a playground before and then we had a regular restless night of sleep. Porter is quite the sleep-talker.
Sunday morning we ate at the Donut Hole, and got a few treasures for the ride home and decided to scoot by Starbucks on our way out of town. We ended up staying at destin commons for a while longer and more time at the playground. We made it home right after lunch and coaxed porter into finishing his nap.

What a great 24 hour getaway....

  1. Sounds like you guys had a blast. I remember doing such things when our kids were younger. They truly make great memories. Thx for sharing.
