Waching toons

Fussy pants had to have a bottle this morning while I was getting ready, so I propped him up on our bed to watch toons and he was happy as he could be.

For about 2 minutes. Then...

(waving at the tv)
So much for wearing makeup today.

A little tired?

This was on the way home from nannie and pawpaw's.

Driving the white jeep

Porter stayed at nannie and pawpaw's house today because he's had fever all night and puked a couple times. He got to drive the old white jeep at their house several times. He looks like he knows what to do.

Happy Birthday Jennings!

Our buddy Jennings turned one on the 24th, and what better place to celebrate than our favorite local Mexican establishment. Jennings is a much better eater than Porter, and really dug in to his little cake. Porter had a couple of small bites, but must still be on a diet, because he still isn't eating much.

5 teeth!!!

I saw it tonight in the bathtub--probably because that's the most confined he's been all day. The rest of the time he's just a crawling blur.
In other news, he will finally drink a little milk out of his cup. The bottle's days are numbered at our house.

I'll try to post a little more when he goes to bed.

POD # 1

I'm up and at 'em.... In the recliner. And poppin' my antibiotics and kidney pills. I get uncomfortable quick whenever I get up, so to remedy that problem, I don't get up much. I have had a shower, but haven't made it to dry my hair yet. I'm pretty sure by how today is going at home I wouldn't have made it very long or very far at work today. If I did I would be taking lots of pain meds, and I don't think you're allowed to operate in that condition.
So if you need me to give updates from fox news or tell you how the recliner feels, I can deliver.

This could get confusing

I only have 6 bottles of pills. I'm going to have to get on if those little pill boxes that have sections for different times of the day to keep up with this. 2 antibiotics (one is for my kidney and the other is one i've been taking for "the plague" I've had for the last week), 2 kidney medicines to help with moving things through, 2 different pain medications, and 1 for nausea. I guess that actually makes 7. I haven't had to take anything for nausea yet, but I might over the next couple if days if I have swelling in my ureter because that can cause distention, which causes nausea. I experienced that on Monday, and it wasn't fun. Every time I moved I would vomit (or try to), but since I hadn't had anything to eat, it was a lot more of nothing. I am pretty tired and just feel like I had surgery I guess. I'm not going to work tomorrow, and probably won't until Monday. I'll just have to see how all this swelling and stone fragment passing goes.

Home but not home free

The stone has been lasered, and I don't have a stent. That's about all I can say. I may still have to pass some pieces of it, and I may still need a stent. It all seems a little vague about what I'm going to experience now, but I was told I probably shouldn't try to go back to work tomorrow. After that I think it's going to be a wait and see kinda thing. I guess I feel better??? I've been really sleepy until the last hour or so, and now I'm starting to hurt a little bit. Thanks for all the prayers!

Three new tricks and I found my weenie!

1. Grinding my teeth
2. Saying uh-oh
3. Making fish lips

You can kinda see his fish lips here, but this is an action shot--like most are these days.
He found his weiny a while back, but must have forgotten it was there, because he was completely surprised to find it again tonight. I have a great picture of this, but Jared says I shouldn't post it.

And we splashed...

Surgery tomorrow

Lithotripsy vs ureteroscopy..... Either break it up with sound waves or go get it with a scope. Tomorrow at 9:00 at springhill hospital.

The stone

I'm home, and as far as I can tell it's still there. I don't hurt much if I just lay around and stay still, but I get pretty uncomfortable if I'm up. I'm in the recliner waiting on my appointment at 2:30.

There it is. It is measured at 5.1mm there, but some other people have measured it at 5.7mm. Either way, I think the cutoff for being able to pass one is 5mm. I guess I'll find out what the urologist thinks in a little while.

From the beginning....

Sunday I had to work--no suprise there. I had some lower abdomen crampiness, and took Tylenol and advil all day. I felt better Sunday night, so I didn't think much about it. At 1:34am Monday morning I woke up with my right back and side hurting, and it was radiating to my groin. By 2:00am I was pacing around the bathroom crying. I thought I had a kidney stone. Jared got me some Tylenol, and by 2:30am I felt a little better, but the pain was still there. He had called his parents to come over to stay with porter, but I ended up not going to the hospital. So the rest of the night I just laid around and actually dosed off about 4:30am, but my alarm goes off at 5:00. So I got up and showered and got ready for work---pain still there, but not as bad as 2:00am. I took more advil, but no help. When I got to work I got one of the CRNAs to give me a shot of toradol (potent NSAID---like advil but really strong) because I had a big case with our new chairman of surgery, and I didn't want to wimp out. The case started at 8:00, and the toradol was gone by about 10:00, and the pain was back same as it had been. So during the case I was pressing on my abdomen and back, and got worried because I was also hurting on my right upper quadrant where you would be tender from your gallbladder, so then I wasn't convinced on the kidney stone idea. I wasn't convinced anyway because I wasn't hurting really really bad like you hear people talk about, and I didn't want to look like a wuss and go to the ER and have nothing wrong with me. Our case was 5 1/2 hours, so I got out at 1:30pm and was still hurting, and it was getting a little worse. So I went ahead over to the ER and told them I thought I had a kidney stone. So they checked me in and did all the kidney stone stuff----made me pee in a cup (which looked like dark sweet tea), started an iv and fluids, and took me to get a CT scan. So right after I got the scan the tech said it's a big one, and you've got a dilated ureter. I went around the little glass and looked at it and was floored. It looked huge, and was blocking my ureter so much that it was dilated and filled up with pee pee that couldn't get by (hydronephrosis in doctor terms), and there were 2 more smaller stones in my kidney. Not really what I was expecting. I thought I was just being a baby about some little pain in my side. So anyway, back in the ER they gave me some good pain and nausea meds, and for the first time in over 12 hours I was pain free. Then I started puking. I hadn't eaten, so a lot of it was dry heaves. Apparently that is what happens when you have a blocked ureter. So that put me over the edge and they didn't want to let me go home and Jared didn't want to take me home, so I stayed in the hospital last night. I did much better when I got some phenergan and got some sleep. This morning I am going home and I have an appointment with a urologist at 2:30pm to see what he thinks. Right now I'm not hurting much, but I think it's because the stone isn't moving. When I do hurt, it's in the same place it's been the whole time. Don't know if I'll have to have it retrieved, broken up, or neither. Guess we'll see this afternoon.
I'll try to get a picture of my CT scan on here at some point for those that would be interested and know what they were looking at. It's not hard to see though. And I could put an arrow pointing to it. Anyway, guess we'll see what happens.

Porter and Jennings

They had a good time with a snack trap this afternoon. It was raining puffs in the living room.

At the Mason's

Our friends that moved to Louisiana are visiting this weekend. We met Drew for the first time. Leigh was pregnant when they moved.

Morgan, Jennings, and Porter have been busy playing. Porter got a new knot on his head shortly after arriving. He is definitely 100% boy. He doesn't know he can't walk yet, and is suprised when he tries and falls down.

He is officially in all 12 month clothes. This is a little outfit that Nana got him.

Update on Anna Todd Cheney Memorial Fund

We have a new address for the foundation. Please send all future contributions to:

The Anna Todd Cheney Memorial Foundation
PO Box 876
Fairhope, AL 36533

I also wanted to give an update on Anna Todd's foundation. First of all, we have a tax ID number and are currently finishing up the 501-C-3 paperwork so we will be a recognized non-profit organization. The PICU at Children's and Women's Hospital in Mobile is helping us to identify families that need help with the non-medical expenses that occur when a child becomes sick.

I am also happy to report that Anna Todd's foundation has helped it's first family. A 2 month old baby came into the PICU on Saturday in respiratory distress and had to be transported to UAB for heart surgery. The baby is the youngest of 6 children and the parents needed money for transportation during their stay at UAB. The father works full time but the necessary costs for such an endeavor is beyond the family's means. Please say a special prayer for "Baby T" as he will undergo heart surgery on Friday.

Thank you all for your support of Anna Todd's Memorial Foundation. Without our friends and family this dream to help others in Anna Todd's memory would not be possible!

Blessings,

Joni and Todd
