Porter and Blue

So far moving Blue inside has gone well. Porter is entertained by him. Blue doesn't seem to really care much about Porter. Blue still has to learn to be a little more careful around Porter, but we've really been pleased with how well Blue is behaving.

Blue is waiting on his opportunity to capitalize on toddler manners.

Chlous Bugus

Chloe is short for Chlous Bugus. It started out as Chlo-Bug and evolved from there. She is on her way to a vet clinic and from there to a trainer, and then to a great home--better than we have been able to provide for the last 17 months. She jumped in the volunteers truck and was happy to be going for a ride. We will get updates on her travels and progress, which will ease our minds about the situation.

Mid-shift post

6 more hours until I have completed 10 weeks of night shift. I will have to do Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, nights of next week, but then I hopefully will NEVER have to work night shift again, and will be 1 rotation from finishing residency. What a long hard 5 years.
Tomorrow should be a good day, and I am hoping for a beach trip on Saturday and just some general relaxation for the weekend. I get to see Porter for more than a couple of hours a day, which is the real highlight of any time off I have.
Blue has done well in the house so far, and Porter really seems to enjoy him. Right now he seems like a new toy, so we'll see how it goes. The Weimaraner rescue is picking Chloe up tomorrow and will be transported to a vet in Birmingham before continuing on to the trainer in Tennessee, where she will stay until she is ready to be placed in another more appropriate home. We are sad that it had come to this, but it really is best. Sometimes the right thing, and the selfless thing, is not the easy choice.

Dog dilemmas

We have 3 dogs. They have been living in our sunroom and backyard since porter was born. Chloe is a 7 year old silver Weimaraner that I got from the wimaraner rescue of the south when I was a 3rd year medical student. Jared got Blue from a breeder in Ohio the next year. And Cooter Brown joined us right about the time I found out I was pregnant (I was not in favor of this decision). Before Porter was born the Weims were pretty much like our kids, and then when Porter came they became dogs again.
We have had multiple conversations over the last 17 months about how, if, and when to integrate the dogs back into the house, with one larger detractor--Chloe is crazy. Really really crazy. She can not at all be trusted around Porter because she is very "alpha" and has a very strong prey drive. The best word to describe her effectively would be crazy, though. Since we have bought a house in Andalusia, the new conversation has been what to do with the dogs when we move because there is no sunroom area for the dogs at that house. They would be completely outside dogs. We aren't really ok with that and I don't think our neighbors would appreciate that either.
So we had decided to surrender the Weims to the weim rescue and try to bring Coot back in the house. To make a long story short, after the appropriate contacts were made, arrangements were set for blue to go to the big dog ranch in south Florida, and for Chloe to go to a trainer in Tennessee until she was ready to go to a new home. We decided it would be best for the dogs and for us.
However, plans have changed again. While Chloe will still be leavin our family to assuredly a better situation for her, we can't give up blue. He us such a sweetheart. He us very tenderhearted and calms down and is much more gentle when Chloe is out of the picture. Today I was supposed to take him to the vet to get up to date on shots and ready to be picked up to go to Florida tomorrow, but instead he and I went to pick up Porter from daycare after his vet trip and Porter and I gave him a bath this afternoon.

We still believe that Chloe would be better off in a different home, without small children. And we don't know about Cooter Brown yet either, but Blue is staying. One big dog in the house is going to be enough, so 2 is a stretch at the least.
