Porter had a good day! Yea!

Day 7 of HFM

Porter is pretty much well. He ate a fairly normal breakfast and was quite energetic. However, Jared called me at 7:00 when I was in morning conference to tell me that he had a headache, fever, an sore throat. So the countdown begins again.... Day 1....

Day 6 of HFM

Last night was much better. Porter slept in his own bed, and only got up a couple of times. He ate yogurt this morning, a couple cheese puffs at lunch and the same for supper. Progress is slow. He is staying hydrated much better. He stayed out of daycare again today and will tomorrow too. He still has ulcers in his mouth, but they are looking better. No fever since Sunday morning, maybe? Can't remember exactly. This afternoon he slept from 3:30 to 7:30, so he didn't go to bed until
10:30. I will be so glad when we can get back on a regular bedtime routine. It makes for happier baby and parents. That is my first priority when I get off nights. Inconsistency has taken it's toll. And HFM is officially my least favorite baby illness so far.

Hand foot mouth day 5

We are still in the depths of this lovely virus. I found out this morning that several kids in the class above porter had it last week. We went to the ER yesterday afternoon and added tylenol with codeine to our regimen. It seems to make him feel a little better, but not enough to make him eat. He I drinking milk and carnation instant breakfast, so at least we are getting some calories in him now. Other than that we are about the same. He stayed home from school and spent the morning with me and the afternoon with nannie and poppie.

He will at least hold food (and play with it). This is a step in the right direction since he wouldn't even touch it or let it near him for the last few days. He did eat one cheese puff today. He cried while he was eating it, but I guess he wanted it that bad.

No fun Easter

I got excited about Porter being better too soon. Last night was another bad night and today ha been no better so far. He still will not eat and has only drank a little juice. Poor miserable little boy. Jared slept with him in the recliner last night, so Porter and I got out of the house this morning so Jared could get some sleep. So far porter and I have been to walmart and we have taken a walk to the park. He fell asleep on the way, so we are just sitting at the park right now letting him sleep. I think he needed a good nap as bad as Jared.
You can see a crumb on his shirt where he took a bite of animal cracker, but spit it out because it hurt too bad to eat it.

Porter doesn't care about the Easter bunny

Stomatitis virus

O. M. G. The last 48 hours that we've had. Porter has a virus that has given him the same symptoms that he had when we were at disneyworld--fever and mouth ulcers that keep him from eating and drinking. He has just today developed the rash that also went along with it. He has not been eating at all, has drank very little, and has definitely not been sleeping well. All this caused us to cancel our tripto Andalusia this weekend and stay home. I was looking forward to posting pictures of Easter egg hunting and his spiffy new outfit, but instead I'm posting a picture of his mouth. Here is what the ulcers look like.

The two little white spots are the ones at the tip of his tongue. And the wet stuff is drool. We have been going through multiple shirts a day. I feel like getting bibs out again. He also has them in the roof of his mouth and on the side of his tongue. We can't see all the way in his mouth, so I don't know how far back they go.
I felt so bad for him and he has been so miserable that I had to get him an early Easter bunny present. A water table. He had fun with it some, but by the time I got my phone/camera, he was back to whiny and hurting. He mostly walks around with his mouth open and tongue sticking out a little.

This afternoon we loaded up on motrin and magic mouthwash and went to the eastern shore center to see if he would be interested in playing in the fountains. He enjoyed it briefly, but didn't want to stay long. We'll have to take him back when he's back to normal.

Just in the last 30 minutes or so he's been finally drinking some juice and has started talking again and playing some. Hopefully we will have a better night. Everyone in this house would appreciate it.
