Happy anniversary

7 years ago today Jared and I got married on the beach in destin. It was casual and fun. I don't remember at the moment what we did for our 1st anniversary, but I'm sure it was more glamorous than our seventh. Her are the pictures I have taken today...

But then what's more glamorous than 2 precious babies and the craziness and entertainment that they bring to our lives? It's quite intriguing how our lives have changed over the last 7 years. We are still a work in progress as people, spouses, and parents, and I'm happy to say that we are in pursuit of a foundation in Christ for all of these roles. At times there were things that have seemed completely unattainable and now that I look back I see the valleys we have climbed out of and I'm sure of one thing--that God is for real, he is for us, and he is for sure. The best is yet to come and won't that be fine.

"Me, Stella, and Stella's baby"

That is who was sitting in Stella's chair this morning.

Believe it or not, porter was not the cause behind the look on Stella's face. He was actually trying to comfort her, but it obviously wasn't working. He really is such a good big brother. Hence the reason "Stella's baby" is in the chair with them. He brought it to her to play with. He also walked around with Stella's baby on his shoulder patting her back. He talks to her like a little mama, and it is so sweet. I hope it continues when she is crawling after him and chewing on his toys.
The mumps: I guess we have them??? He has had no other symptoms of mumps other than a swollen face. No fever, pain, tiredness, nausea and vomiting, or any other symptoms. He has been completely porter with a fat face. We still have no idea where he got it from. These pictures were taken this morning, but when I got home right after lunch his face actually looks better. So is it really the mumps or just a swollen parotid gland of some other variety. Not sure. Either way we are staying away from those at risk--the very old, children who have not been vaccinated but have lost their mother's immunity (6 months to 1 year old), and kids who haven't gotten their 4 year old booster and are older than 3. This all is according to several websites and Dr E. That means no school for porter. And no schoolwork for daddy. And no rest from this crazy week for mama. As I've heard many times during my surgery residency--you can sleep when you're dead.

Mumps

Porter has it/them or whatever you call it. Jared called me about 1:30am while I was working the ER and told me porter's face was swollen. I said he probably got bit by a mosquito when he was out playing yesterday afternoon. Porter was crying for mama (secretly I love this since he has been all about daddy for months now), so Jared brought him to the ER to see me. And he was pretty worried about his face.

Dr E came out and looked at it and immediately knew it was the mumps. Usually viral, lasting 7-10 days. Yea!!! So much for Jared working on his big paper all week.

Mission friends concert

Very very rarely does porter let me video him singing, but last night I basically got a full concert.
He loves mission friends and the songs they sing there. Here are some short videos of his "performance."
This is supposed to be "My God is so big," but we've got a little work to do on this one....

YouTube Video

The laughing song and I just wanna be a sheep "medley" and then each song separately (well, part of I just wanna be a sheep).

This week in pictures

Cupcake at sugar rush. Yum!

My frozen milk so far. This is a huge accomplishment for me!! Maybe TMI for some people, but I know there are a select few that can appreciate this.

What happens when porter skips nap at school.

Sweet big brother. He is so good with her.

Emma.....
She is a friend's niece. She goes to porter's school now and I got to school before "aunt Gigi" one day this week. I got her to take a picture with me and sent it to her.

The next day when I got to school she wanted to take a picture again.

And again today. I got porter to pose with her today.

Pics from wedding

Last weekend we went to mobile for a wedding. The couple is Travis and Kelly. He was in my residency class and Kelly was a nurse in the SICU at USA.
I didn't get a picture with Kelly, but our whole residency class was all there and we got a pic together. Probably the last time we will be in the same place together.

I also got to visit with what seemed like the entire surgery department and SICU staff. It was great to see everyone. I was especially glad to see my friend Tam, who is now a 4th year resident. I miss hanging out with her and her husband jack so much. They were as close as you can get to "real" friends during residency. You can really only hang out at work, since that's all you do.
