Porter [not] eating cheese

We have a long list of things he will [not] eat. Cheese, hamburger meat, ravioli, and fish are just a few. There are a lot of foods that never make it as far as cheese. He gags if you touch most things to his lips. He never even tastes them before he gags. Right now the only thing he will actually open his mouth for and eat enough of it to count is yogurt and nutrigrain bars. He had that for breakfast and lunch today. For supper he had half of a little thing of applesauce. He was offered macaroni and cheese, meat sticks, ravioli, cooked apple bits, puffs, and cheerios. He wouldn't even eat the puffs, which is usually our Plan B. Oh, and I forgot about cheez-its. He loves them and will put them in his mouth and suck on them until they are soggy enough to chew and swallow. I know this stage will pass, but it sure is frustrating.

It looks like baby cereal may be a thing of the past

He wouldn't eat baby cereal this morning, but had a good ime with cheerios this morning---eating them and playing with them. Cereal out. Cheerios in.

Trying new things

I fixed Porter a piece of flounder (without the "cheesy" part) and a little red potato mashed up with a tiny bit of butter and salt. I thought it looked de-li-cious, but Porter didn't agree. He's not much on change. He ate a few bites of fish, but wasn't thrilled about it. The potatoes were a big no. I was proud that he did chew and swallow, and not gag like he does with most new things. He was very happy to see the baby food jar make an appearance, and did eat a few bites of banana apple yogurt before he was ready for puffs and juice. My first few pictures didn't turn out too well because the flash didn't go off and I had to enhance them on the computer. I know--I should stick to my day job.

He wasn't as happy as he looked in these pictures.... I was clapping and saying, "Yea Porter!"

Jared feeding Porter

I had this video in my email when I finished my case last night. Jared is just as funny as Porter is.

Biter Biscuits

I gave Porter a biter biscuit this afternoon while I was doing stuff in the kitchen. I knew what to expect, because I have given Caroline one before. She was just old enough to sit up, and I was babysitting--I had no idea what I was doing then, but those things kept her occupied. Worked for Porter too.

Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival 2009

This weekend was the 50-something-th Annual Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival. The streets of Fairhope are blocked off, and over 200 artists have booths with their artwork for sale. There are some really amazing things there, and we look forward to this weekend all year. Mama and Bill came down for it--this was Bill's first trip. Mama, Nicole, and the little girls came last year. We got a couple of spoons from the Spoon Man, a turtle painting, and Jared got an alligator.... you'll see later. Here are some pictures from the day. Porter got some wooden cars and trucks, a "Porter" train, some green beans (I think he could have done without if it were up to him) and lots of lovin' from the ladies.

Catherine, Caroline, and Porter.
Aunt Moth Ball and Porter. He's worried that she might eat him.
He's worried she might try to eat him again later.
Aunt Kim and Porter.
First day with vegetables. We tried to hide them amongst the fun-filled Fairhope day. Didn't work. He was not fooled for a minute. He's on top of things...
Done.
Riding Daddy's alligator. It's a bad picture, but it is so funny. It's just the right size for him.

Day 13

Today was a big day. I drove to Andalusia this morning after I got off work. I was home by 8:30. Porter was watching "toons" (what the little girls call cartoons) when I got in. He was in Andalusia partly because that's where the babysitters are, but also because today was Vicki picture day. He had his 3 month pictures (a little late). As always, I can't wait for that little booklet to come in the mail. I'm not going to have any wall space left by the time he's 2.
This afternoon Porter saw his feet for the first time, and thought they were so funny that he laughed out loud! And he talked on the phone to his Daddy. The day is so busy that Jared usually calls around 8:30, and Porter is already asleep. We miss him and can't wait for him to get home.

Day 3

We had a pretty good day today. I worked all day, Porter went to daycare, and Nannie and PawPaw Harden and my Nannie all worked on the sunroom and the backyard. Porter was already eating cereal when I got home this evening. He is doing good with it. He thinks we are slow feeders--every time there is a hesitation between bites he politely tells us to speed up.
He's trying out his vocal cords more too. His talking is getting louder and longer. He looks very serious when he is talking--like he is really saying something important. His favorite time to get on his soap box is right after he gets out of the bathtub. He had an almost squeal tonight when we were getting all his rolls powdered up. Next to that, his favorite is being on the changing table. Maybe it has something to do with being naked??? He is the Prince (some understand what that means more than others.....)
He is also enjoying watching the waterfall soother in his bed. If he is not quite asleep when I put him down he will just lay there and watch it. Tonight I when I left his room he was still watching it and then went right off to sleep. Hopefully he will sleep good! Last night he got up at 3:00am. He got out of his routine last week, but is slowly getting back to normal. I know Nannie is ready for him to sleep good too, since she has been getting up with him at night when she is here. She is spoiling both of us.

Day 1

The Daddy person will be out of town for the next 4 weeks on business, so we will be keeping him updated on everything via the blog. This morning we left the house around 4:30 so Jared could be at the airport in time to leave on a 6:00 flight. We left Porter with Nana rocking him back to sleep after a bottle. He has not been feeling well the last couple of days, so we had planned to take him to the doctor in the afternoon when I could get away from work. He started feeling better throughout the morning though, so we just cancelled the appointment. Porter hung out with Nannie and Aunt Monkey (yes, that is a real person) while Mama, Brooke, and I hit the Malbis mall--hard. We did some serious damage in a couple of hours. We had a blast. This evening Porter had a little cereal, got a bath, and had a bottle before bed. He didn't think he was quite ready to go to bed at 8:00, but a little rocking convinced him he was sleepy after all. I know it's a bad habit to start--I did try putting him to bed without rocking, but he was a little fussy, so I had to go get him.

We're eating a little cereal.
It appears to be fun.
Little fat boy.
