Porter likes it!!!

No more jars of spaghetti sauce for us!!! Porter likes the spaghetti with the homeade stuff.

Two comments about the picture:
1. The cup in front of his face is his way of not being in the picture
2. Sometimes he eats better in the tub (who wouldn't!), so we do what it takes...

What's for supper??

The bigger question these days is what ISN'T for supper. That list is long. And I'm certainly not "craving" anything. Tolerate. Right now it seems that tomatoes seem tolerable. And Jalepenos or anything spicy. So what's for supper?
Homeade salsa

And homeade marina and noodles. No meat!!! (and that's allowed since Jared is out of town tonight.)

Both excellent recipes from my mom that I must share.

Salsa
1 large can crushes tomatoes
1 bundle green onions, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
3 cans chopped green chili pepper
1 small can diced Jalepenos
Salt and pepper

Best marinara sauce yet (from allrecipes.com)
2 14.5oz cans stewed tomatoes
1 6oz can tomato paste
4 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
6 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup finely diced onion
1/2 cup white wine

In a food processor place the stewed tomatoes, tomato paste, chopped parsley, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth.
In a large pot, sauté onion in olive oil for 2 minutes. Add the blended tomato sauce and white wine.
Simmer for 30 minutes.

I did add about 1 tbsp of sugar to the marinara, because sugar is yummy. :)

Both the salsa and marinara have been good to me tonight. If I eat slowly.
I will be happy to get past this nasty first trimester, but do not look forward to not being able to lay on my stomach, as in, on a float in the pool. I guess I will have to try two floats with a gap in the middle.

Dare I say it???

I've been on the verge of putting in writing in the form of a blog post that porter is officially potty trained, but I have refrained because he will still have the occasional accident. Last Sunday he had a terrible day and peed in his car seat on the way home from church, and then two other times that afternoon at home. I didn't really know what to think about that because he has been averaging 3 accidents a week at the most, and probably less than that. I am proud to say that we have not cleaned up any poopy underwear for a long time. It seems that once he was able to do it once it just clicked and he tries to poop every time he sits on the potty.
This morning while I was getting ready for work he was playing at the other end of the house. All of a sudden he yells, "mama!" I said, "what?!" And he yells back, "I made a poooo-oooop!" I got a little worried and ran to see where he had made a poop and found him in his dark bathroom near his potty with his pants and underwear at his ankles. He instructed me to turn the light on and then pointed to his creation. In the potty!!! I inspected his underwear and they were clean. He had gone to his bathroom, pulled down his pants an underwear and had peed and pooped all by himself!!!! He then informed me that he needs to get white ice cream for pooping in the potty. I told him we would go to dairy queen as soon as I picked him up from school.
So, I feel better about saying that he's potty trained, but won't be naive enough to think that we will be accident free. Hooray!!

Porter's expanded menu

Don't get excited. It still only includes one vegetable--green beans. He does eat potatoes, but I don't really count it as a vegetable.
New foods he has recently started eating (and by recently, I mean the last few days):
Crawfish
Fried pickles
Fried rice
Fresh blueberries
Soup at the Japanese restaurant--don't know what it is officially called
Ranch dressing--on fried pickles

He still has a pretty long list of foods he describes as "nasty." Corn is at the top of that list and usually calls it's nasty on sight, but when we were at hilltop (eating crawfish) he took one very small bite of a corn on the cob. And then spit it out. It's progress though.
The no's are pretty easy to list, because it is in groups:
Anything fried with thick batter
Pasta of any kind, unless hidden with lots of meat of any kind
Any vegetable other than green beans
Real cheese--he only likes nasty kraft singles

Things he *thinks* he likes--these are things that he asks for, and gets excited about, but it never seems to materialize in any real eating:
Chocolate milk
Cake/cupcakes/muffins/etc...
Milkshakes
Suckers--except for the ones at Winn Dixie

Super short

I went from short to super short. I like it. It's a couple of weeks old now and I'm really getting the hang of how to fix it and exactly how much "product" it takes. I don't think I will/can ever go back long.

A "Nannie's" day

I have not been busy with work lately (boo for me--yea for the rest of the world), so it was a perfect day to sew. I was able to get to Nannie's earlier than ever, and we were very productive. I did 3 onesies for my friend Nancy, who I know is very anxiously awaiting the arrival of Julianne in early June.

I also did a little polo for porter. It's white with a little "roll tide" in crimson on the pocket area. Brooke also got a lot accomplished. She made four appliquéd bibs for a friend at her church. The best part of the day was LUNCH!!!! Nannie made roast, creamed corn, butter beans, stewed squash, and cornbread. Brooke and I ate twice!

The "No fire" place

That would be the Japanese place in Andalusia. All we have to do is drive by, and porter starts saying, "no fire, mama." he doesn't like the fire part of the hibachi show.
We recently had dinner there after caroline's preschool graduation. Porter had his usual hibachi steak, and we got our fortune cookies on the way out the door. We were in a little bit of a hurry so I didn't take the time to open his, break it open, and get the fortune out, so I opened it for him when we got in the car and handed it back to him still in the wrapper. (I am completely aware that that is a terrible run on sentence. Sorry Mrs Kirkland.) He examined his cookie, took it out of the wrapper, broke it in half, and exclaimed, "mama, my cookie's got a tag in it!"

During porter's little life, I have occasionally referred to him as "p-pot." A couple of months ago we were calling him "names" to get him stirred up. Names like "moose butt," "goat toe," "fish nose," etc... Finally he had had enough, and very seriously informed us, "I not moose butt, I p-pot!" Now p-pot has evolved into whatever being he is, and his name is porter. Example: "I p-pot. Name's porter." All while patting his chest. This also applies when you try to compliment with things like, "you're so cute." You get, " I not cute. I p-pot!"

What has got porter kicked back in the recliner?

The mother goose club videos on YouTube. For the last week, it's his favorite thing to watch. He watched them long enough for me to completely cook supper from start to finish. He didn't even look up from the computer. His favorites are hickory dickory dock, bingo, itsy bitsy spider, and where is thumbkin. The best part is if you search for one of their videos, you can click on the playlist, and it will play all 33 videos in a row. They are all between 30 seconds and 2 minutes long.
