When I get bigger

We recently got a new little critter book called "when I get bigger." Porter has really taken to this idea and I think he actually gets the concept. Now he is always asking if he can do certain things when he gets bigger....
"Mama, I can pway baseball when I get bigger."
"I can drink coffee, when I get bigger?"
It's kinda handy at times too. I can tell him he can't do something until he gets bigger, and that seems to satisfy him.

Next topic: the box turtle.
This morning jared found a box turtle in our driveway. He brought it inside to show porter, and I'm glad his stay at our house was short, because he was well on his was to being worried to death. Porter talked to him, and the "come on wittle fewwa" was heard several times. He wanted to hold/touch him, and carry him around the house. I had to keep the turtle next to me the whole time I was getting ready for church for the turtle's safety. Jared and porter took him back across the street to his family before we left for church.



New topic #3: months of the year. This afternoon after a routine trip to the potty, porter breaks out singing the months of the year while we were getting his underwear and shorts back on. He made it all the way to September before getting confused with all those at the end that end with -ber. They were a little out of order. I don't know exactly where he learned them from. We have watched a little YouTube video occasionally that is a months of the year song, but not any time recently. Maybe at school? I don't think they are really doing much school stuff in the summer though. Either way, I was surprised how well he knew them. I'm so impressed with how much he learns from school--from the school stuff to the social things. He is already learning what sounds letter make, to recognize written numbers and letters, and the concept of having a certain number of things. He has learned lots of songs, not the least being the blessing song that they sing at lunch. He has learned how to be a good friend by sharing and understands how to share and what it means to take a turn at something. That doesn't mean he doesn't do it without whining some, but even adults whine a lot. ;)
The good things that he has learned from being in daycare/school far outweighs the negatives, which are just the bad things/habits he picks up from other kids. They are pretty minor and easy to fix at home. The positive on that is he will be learning how to make good decisions when faced with the choice of doing something else. I would rather him be aware of how the real world can be and be able to make the good choice than not equipped with the skills to do so.
