Celebratory ice cream

I'll refrain from posting pictures....

But porter just pooped in the potty for the first time!!!! I am hoarse from screaming and cheering so much. We have been working on this so hard since we started the potty thing 3 weeks ago. Hopefully this means less handwashing underwear in the guest bathroom sink. (we'll clean it good before we actually have any guests.)
We are going to celebrate by getting ice cream after his bath--he's too dirty right now from eating spaghetti.
The funniest thing was that I had left him in the bathroom sitting on his potty to "try" and he called me in there to tell me he had pooped in the potty. After he showed me he looked down at his legs and said, "I don't have poop all over me!"

My Easter eggs

They might as well be. Porter's not an artsy-crafty kinda guy. All he did was break one egg by throwing it into the cup of dye t already had an egg in it and pick out a few pairs of eyes and mouths. We did monster eggs to continue with the monster theme we have around here. We are trying to make light of the situation.

And here's what the Easter bunny left. He right after porter went to bed. Hate he was already asleep and missed him.

It's hard to see, but he got Alice in Wonderland, a new watering can, Easter egg shaped sidewalk chalk, a spiderman flashlight, and assorted candy things.
This afternoon we went to an Easter egg hunt on a farm. We saw roosters, turkeys, a peacock, horses, sheep, goats, and baby chicks, ducks, and bunnies. Porter held a baby duck and fed several of the other animals.

He wanted to give the donkey a huh before we left.

He really got into hunting the eggs and even found one of the prize eggs. It had a small Percy train in it and he also got $5 for finding it! He was great for the Easter bunny and got his picture made with him. I don't have those pictures because my camera died. "Cold" has them on her camera and I will be getting those from her. The Easter bunny gave him a little goody bag with candy in it. Porter said, "It's candy! Thank you rabbit bunny!"

Aaaahhhhhhh! Home alone!!

I have been home alone for about 24 hours now. I have thoroughly enjoyed it! I do like my husband and son, but it sure is nice to have some time to myself. I haven't been super productive or anything. I went to the gym with no watching the clock yesterday and today, I went to bed early and slept late (7 am), I got Easter eggs ready to dye, I did a load of laundry, and watched tv in peace. Now I'm laying by the pool listening to nothing. It sounds so good.
Porter and Jared are in mobile. They have played at nannie and poppie's house catching lizards, played with tools in shop, they ate at la cocina last night (jealous of that), ate a waffle house this morning, went to toys r us, got new shoes, saw the fish at Bass pro and got lunch at chik fil a (jealous again). They are headed home now. I certainly don't mind them taking a little trip without me anytime.
I don't know the story behind this picture, but this is one I have gotten from Jared.

Evening at the carnival.

Porter's "trombone."

You can't really tell much from this picture, but it is "cold" and porter sliding.

To say he wasn't scared of anything wouldn't portray an accurate picture of how he felt about the rides. He was asking to go on rides that adults are scared of.
Nana with the loot. (for all the kids--not just porter.)

The trombone had to be tired to. It went to bed with porter.

Arrrggghhhh!

This is baby shower decorations turned porter toy.

We have a full blown "pie-yat" at our house. You might hear arrrggghhh, pow matey, ahoy, and all aboard! (pirates ride trains too).
And I love the color wonder markers and books. Porter doesn't care anything about coloring.

We wear big boy underwear

But wouldn't label us as potty trained. And we are one week into wearing big boy underwear. Porter has yet to poop in the potty, so we are doing a lot of laundry. I had to buy more shorts so we could go through 2 or more pairs a day and still have some clean for the next day. That makes it sound terrible, but it really hasn't been that bad this week. He is starting to ask to go tee tee which helps, because it's hard to remember to take him often. That is the biggest adjustment for us--having to watch the clock and take him to the potty frequently. He is staying dry through naptime and asking to go potty as soon as he wakes up, but is still in a pullup at night. He is doing much better at getting his underwear/pants up and down by himself too, and we haven't really had to alter our plans for being away from the house since last saturday. He did pretty good while we were fishing Sunday (had one accident, but had several successful tee tees) and that was our first trip out of the house. I just take at least one pair of shorts and a couple of pairs of underwear in my purse when we go somewhere. I'm pretty much diaper bag free--that's the first time I've thought about that. That's kinda nice. I officially transformed porter's changing table into a little dresser. That for me was the most sad thing so far about him growing up. So no more changing pad, wipes, powder, butt paste, or diaper stacker. We have a few pullups in his underwear basket in his bathroom and that is it. And we still are using the diaper genie for his one pullup a day. But once we are done with that bag refill I will just put it up.
I think the rewards are definitely worth it so far, even with our poop deficiencies. But I really hope he gets that part soon. I'm glad we did it when we did. He was ready, even though he wasn't really too interested. He resisted somewhat the first few days, but once he realized that we weren't backing down he just did it. And I don't think it would have ever worked if he had continued to wear pullups. Potty training gets two thumbs up from me!

"Wook at my hat!"

Porter feeds the ducks at nana and Papa's house. He pours out the food, and then puts on his "hat."

Explanation of post below--Scaring Monsters

This video is a couple of weeks old, but has been insanely hard to get from my flip to the computer.  I still don't know why it wouldn't upload into iMovie correctly, but I finally got it into iPhoto, imported it into iMovie and then got it in a format to post.  Then I couldn't get it to upload onto blogger, so I had to go through youtube.  But whatever.  Here it is.
The explanation behind the video is that we have been battling a terrible infestation of monsters and dragons in our house.  A daily cleansing was necessary for a while for us to all sleep at night.  Porter was getting up 5-6 times a night.  Now moving on to some other reason for us to get up at night.  Can't wait to see what that will be this time.  Am I allowed to wake him at all times of the night and day when all he wants to do is sleep as a teenager???

Scaring monsters

Our anniversary weekend

Saturday was our 6th anniversary, but it got a little overshadowed by the potty. Here is how we spent our day the rest of the time.
We exchanged gifts. Jared gave me a really cool pendant, and I gave him a branding iron. (iron is the traditional 6th anniversary gift. We aren't doing that or anything, but when I was looking around for something I found that idea.)

It has his monogram.

He tried it out by branding his coolers.

We watered Nana's plants.

Drove Papa's lawnmower.

Jared "smoked" all day in preparation of our big weekend coming up.

We blew bubbles and "chawkin'" while daddy cooked.

"want one, mama?"

Made homeade pizza for lunch.

Got porter's trains back out.

And got winter clothes ready for the attic.

For supper we had smoked chicken and ribs and watched toy story 2 (we watched 1 Friday night and 3 Sunday night.) A great anniversary in my eyes!!
